We are mere days away from the 2017 TCFStyle Expo, y’all!! I cannot believe the time has almost come. Here at Team TCFStyle, today is officially Expo Week, as all the final preparations are being made to ensure that this weekend is absolutely EPIC for everyone!!
If you are planning on attending this weekend, what are you most excited about? The shopping, the networking, the panels? This year’s expo has no shortage of amazing panels and today we have got the 411 on a panel you do NOT want to miss out on!
Body Politics: Finding OUR Identify & Representation,
Presented by Plus Zone
We all know that representation matters. As a part of society, you may find images that represent you are few and far between. Let’s face the facts, for way too long, media and brands have controlled the images and representation of what they consider to be diverse bodies.
But their offerings are pretty much lacking, if we are keeping it 100%. We are overdue to be represented and celebrated for our size, skin color, ability, age, shape and gender. And during this panel, we will be discussing the politics behind the media’s portrayal of the plus size community and how we can command control of our identities. It’s time for us to speak up! Embrace true diversity! Demand empowerment for all! And while we are on the subject of empowerment, we have some strong and vocal women leading up this panel. Let’s get to know them now!
Ariel Woodson is a woman who wears many, many stylish hats. She is a self-proclaimed Bad Fat Broad, novice sociologist (shout out to everyone rocking unused degrees!), amateur fat activist, sometimes fatshionista and pretty much a rabble-rouser all together. She intends to dust off her website, kiddotrue.com someday. Until that day arrives, you can check out her musings on quality plus-size underwear for thelingerieaddict.com, fighting the good fight for fat positivity and podcasting her little heart out as one half of Bad Fat Broads.
Ivory Jinelle is a plus style icon who believes wholeheartedly that style has no limits. With that belief, she is motivated to encourage women to step outside their personal style box by fearlessly wearing what makes them happy. Whether it’s a mixture of high and low items, print and pattern clashing, look at me color and heels… A fabulous pair of heels are essential. Priding herself in challenging the idea of what plus size is perceived to be, Ivory Jinelle has been featured on Essence.com, Bustle.com, Refinery 29, Hello Beautiful, and many other fashion led sites.
Cassandra (Cassy) Jones-McBryde is a social entrepreneur with a long-standing commitment to the empowerment and positive development of women and girls across the globe. Her commitment began and of course continues in Detroit, specifically. She founded The International Fuller Woman Network in 2009, and produces body positive empowerment initiatives like The International Fuller Woman Expo in Africa, Asia and the United States. Cassandra also serves as the Features Editor for DailyVenusDiva.com.
What an amazing squad of women on this panel, no? A very special shout out to Plus Zone for making this panel possible! I know that everyone in attendance will be in for more than a few eye-opening, mind-blowing moments! And of course, this leads to a very, very important question… Will we see YOU there?!?!?
