How to SLAY the Networking Game at the TCFStyle Expo
The 2017 TCFStyle Expo is only 1.5 months away!! If it’s anything like last year (and I know it will be!), this is going to be an intense two days of shopping and connecting, and you better be ready to SLAY the networking game! There will be SO many bloggers to meet, SO many fashion and beauty lovers to gab with, and SO many vendors to make meaningful connections with during the expo! Here are my top 5 tips for networking like a pro at the TCFStyle Expo.
Tip #1: Mind Your Own Business…CARDS
At an event like this, business cards are serious business. You will be making valuable connections with bloggers, designers and brand reps, and exchanging cards is major social currency. I mean — don’t toss your cards around like confetti, but have them on hand and easily accessible for critical points of contact. I also recommend having a separate pocket in your purse where you put the important business cards that you receive. Things can get hectic at these events, and it’s too easy to lose track of the cards that you want to follow up on. In fact, a pro tip is to actually take a picture of the business card before you tuck it away…that way, you have a digital copy in case you lose it!
Tip #2: Stalk It Like It’s Hot
One of the best things you can do to SLAY the networking game at the event is to do your stalking – ahem…I mean research – ahead of time. Check out the event hashtag (#tcfstyleexpo) and see who has posted about attending it. If there’s someone that you would love to meet in person at the event – send them a DM before the conference and start a conversation. Some of my best blogger friendships started with a DM!
Tip #3: Go Above and Beyonce
Based on the AH-mazing fashion on display at last year’s expo, you are going to want your outfit to be on point! Your mission: make ‘em say “YAAAS Queen!” when they see your outfit. I’ve already started planning what I’m going to wear. You need to look fabulous, but try to avoid pain. That means if you wear your fabulous shoes, just be sure to get your pictures first and bring some flats for running around the expo!
Tip #4: Sparkle, Baby!
Don’t forget to smile, tell someone they look fab, and put down your phone! Networking starts by smiling and opening your mouth! Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with the gal in line for the restroom. Tell someone the dress they are trying on looks amazing! Sit at a table with some new faces and introduce yourself. Yes, you need to check in on social media and post your boomerangs and selfies, but making those in-person connections are just as important. This is your time to debut your sparkling personality.
Tip #5: Be Insta Friendly
If it’s not on Instagram, did it really happen? (Serious question, y’all!) This is a fashion event, and you will not be able to take two steps without taking a picture of or with someone. So, be friendly when someone asks you to take their picture. Take a few from different angles and try to make them look as amazing as possible. They will definitely want to return the favor, and this exchange can lead to natural conversations. You’ll be networking before you know it!
